Analytical Description: Tigrawnet vs. Agaezawnet By Dr. Aregawi Mebrahtu, Agaezi National Union (ANU)

  1. Conceptual Foundations

Tigrawnet

  • Tigrawnet refers to the identity, cultural memory, and collective belonging of Tigrayans, rooted in:
    • Tigrinya language
    • Tigrayan highland traditions
    • regional history
    • shared trauma and collective experience that exclusively starts on february 11.1967 Geez calendar articulated in ways that are in tension with broader Ethiopian, Aksumite, or Ge’ez-based civilizational narratives.
  • It is primarily an ethno-cultural identity, shaped by geography and modern political developments specifically by protestanist division evangelical mind set installed in Adwa (the real village of Tigray origin) area.
  • It mainly targets the shared Geez culture, shared Geez history, Shared Geez heritages and Geez Aksumit civilization and its empire as its worst enemy and tries its best to deconstruct it and destroy it totally.
  • Tigrawnet regards all Kings of Kings and Emperors of Greater Geez nation, Agaezi Ethiopians as worst enemies and does everything possible to eradicate and dismantle them, erase their legacy, bury their history and dismiss their images or heritages. King of king Yohanes IV, World King Sebagadis and General Alula Abanega are among the attacked and betrayed Agaezi Heroes and Patriots for instance.
  • Tigrawnet considers Aksum civilization as landlocked and cut off from adulis, Red Sea with a firm and determined stand for Eritreanization of the ancient Aksumit Agaezi civilization, Geez people, Geez Red sea and Geezland.
  • Tigrawnet suffers from  identity crisis, inferiority complex, and stokhelmsyndrome that completely clashes with Agaezawnet.
  • Tigrawnet is Pro-Italian and Egyptian Strategic Interest and narratives which are both strategic enemies of Agaezawnet that defeated them several times at several places. This seems Tigrawnet an installed instrument to operate as askaris bandits againstAgaezian Mighty warriors to compensate for Proxy war as revenge political framework for Egypt and Italians.
  • Tigrawnet is both theoretically and practically against the Orthodox Tewahido and Habesha Islam as well.
  • Tigrawnet plays victimhood politics and considers Geezawit Ethiopia as its oppressive colonial power country and commits tremendous treasons against our national interest and security.
  • Tigrawnet extremely hates Amhara, Agame and other Ethiopians as well.
  • Tigrawnet is narrow minded and installed a tribalistic and brutal ethnic based pseudo federalism constitution that fragmented and disintegrated Ethiopia copied from Yugozlavia.
  • Tigrawnet works against Geez civilizations and values. For instance, Tigrawnet changed Ge’ez script into latin since 1983 Geez calendar, fragmented Abysinian hegemony and fabricated another hegemony that opposes Geez heritages and values.

Agaezawnet

  • Agaezawnet refers to a larger civilizational identity associated with:
    • the Ge’ez-speaking world of antiquity,
    • Pre- and Post-Aksumite cultural foundations,
    • the Geezland Christian civilization,
    • linguistic and liturgical heritage (Ge’ez).
    • Queenship and Kingship systems
    • More than 3500 years of history and  narratives
    • Geez Red Sea and Geez Values
  • It is broader than any single ethnicity and is often understood as a civilizational or historical identity rather than strictly ethno-regional.

In short:
Tigrawnet = regional/ethno-cultural identity.
Agaezawnet = historical/civilizational and values based broad identity.

  1. Historical Scope

Tigrawnet

  • Historically tied to the region of Tigray.
  • Considered as genocider, historicide, culturicide and democide by Agame, Temben, Enderta, Raya, and Shire-Welqayt communities since the 1987 Geez calendar declaration of TPLF dismantling these administrative names into east, west, south etc directions that has no connection with the people.
  • Emerges strongly in the 20th–21st century as a political and regional identity by the help of evangelical missionaries such as Debrtera Fisseha Weldegiorigis (latter pastor in Rome), Haleka Teweldemedhin Tebremedhin (latter pastor in Sweden), Weldeab Weldemariam (latter pastor in Egypt) that created  EPLF and TPLF both against the shared Geez values and Geez civilization.
  • Emphasizes:
    • Tigrayan heroes that are known for civil wars within Ethiopia such as Meles Zenawi, Sebhat Nega, Debretsion Gebremikael etc all from Adwa (Tigray) askaris and bandits.
    • modern political movements that undermine Aksumit expansionist and inclusive empire with its Red Sea Civilization and its legacies.
    • regional and tribal secessionism and survival instead of Broader value based civilizational unification and harmony in Ethiopia.
    • communal memory of civil wars and victimhood political framework fabrications and poor propaganda disseminated by enemies of Geez civilization and patriotisms such as Egypt and Italy.

Agaezawnet

  • Refers to an identity stretching back to Aksum, the pre-Aksumite polities, and the Ge’ez cultural sphere with a broader and inclusive wisdom, political framework and value based continuous nation building of Greater Ethiopia with its Red Sea.
  • Has a broader chronological span: antiquity → medieval Ethiopia → modern era.
  • Emphasizes:
    • linguistic ancestors (Ge’ez speakers) and scripts
    • ancient institutions and values
    • shared religious-philosophical traditions
    • a supra-ethnic historical community
    • Geez civilizations and heritages
    • Freedom, Justice and Humanity
  1. Identity Structure

Tigrawnet

  • Particularistic and separatist (focused on one group).
  • Based on shared:
      • language (Tigrinya) which started all of a sudden in 1895 in Rome, Italy.
      • territory (Tigray) region redrawn in 1987 Geez calendar by directions such as east, west, south and core, making Adwa core and others  such as Agaem, Shire, Temben, Raya and Enderta periphery.
      • historical suffering and resilience during the 17 years of civil wars and the then wars with Sheabia Eritrea and Prosperity Oromo.
    • Often mobilized politically in response to conflict or marginalization in a victimhood and oppressed mindset motivations.
    • It is neither a nation nor identity on the ground but continues to be a tool for civil wars and repeated democides and genocides in Ethiopia.

Agaezawnet

  • Universalizing and Inclusivist (open to multiple groups, religions, languages and perspectives).
  • Represents:
    • shared civilizational values
    • a common Ge’ez heritage and scripts
    • long-term continuity among Geezland populations and Geez Red Sea.
  • Not tied to a single ethnic group, though the current Tigray plays a central role within it as a destabilizing and disintegrating factor for the Greater Geez values and connecting factors..

    • Connecting Geez scripts and values
  • Seen as a civilizational framework, not a regional victimhood secessionist ideology.

 Conclusion

Since 11 February 1967 Geez calander Tigrawnet and Agaezawnet are contradictory in that they operate at different layers of antagonist identity, geography and heritages. Meaning Tigrawnet and Agaezawnet represent two very different layers of identity within the Horn of Africa:

  • Tigrawnet is the immediate, lived identity of TPLF Tigrayans today that exclusively starts from 11 February 1967 gee calander.
  • Agaezawnet is the deep historical and civilizational identity connecting multiple peoples such as Amharas, Eritreans, Gurages, Harars,  Tigrayans and other Ethiopians to an ancient Aksumit Agaezi civilizational heritage, values and narratives extending more than 3500 years.

In fact, it was possible to one is the branch, the other the root; However, the tPLF defined Tigrawnet has totally rejected the root and prefered to dismantle it totally in collaboration with other strategic enemies of Agaezawnet (Greater Ethiopia with its Red Sea).

They are not inherently incompatible—but conflicts arise when regional identity is positioned in opposition to civilizational heritage, or when modern political narratives attempt to reinterpret or erase longer historical continuities.

Agaezawnet provides the root, the deep civilizational foundation. Tigrawnet provides the branch, the modern lived identity of one region.

A balanced national project must understand both—while ensuring that historical heritage, civilizational continuity, and shared identity remain inclusive and unifying.
